Whitening Toothpaste

Whitening toothpaste is like any other toothpaste, except it has trace amounts of hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide helps remove surface stains from tooth enamel, whitening your teeth and giving you a brighter smile.

Since whitening toothpaste only has small amounts of hydrogen peroxide, it can take several weeks or months for you to see results. But, if you use it consistently, brushing your teeth with it twice a day, you can maintain those results for a long time.

Whitening Gels and Whitening Strips

Over-the-counter teeth whitening options like whitening strips and gels are simple and effective ways to brighten teeth. All you need to do is follow the instructions on the back of the box. It’s easy and effective. All at-home treatments include hydrogen peroxide, which is used for bleaching teeth and removing tooth stains.

It is important to note that whitening treatments found at your local pharmacy or grocery store will not have a higher peroxide concentration. You can find more potent bleaching agents at a dentist’s office. However, the bleaching agent in a whitening strip or kit is much stronger than the agent used in whitening toothpaste.

Many people opt for at-home whitening kits like whitening strips and gels because they offer visible results without a dentist visit. But their teeth whitening results do not last long. Your pearly whites will last, on average, 6 months when you use over-the-counter products like strips and gels.

In-Office Treatment

Professional teeth whitening treatment is when you have your teeth whitened at a dental office.

When you get your teeth professionally whitened, the dentist applies a highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide gel to the surface of your teeth. The gel sits there for about an hour, lifting any surface and internal stains. In some cases, the gel may need to be activated by a laser to remove the stains. Your teeth will be shades brighter after only one visit to the dentist.

Professional whitening treatments like laser teeth whitening can last anywhere from 6 months to 1 year, depending on your lifestyle and diet. Laser teeth whitening also promises greater tooth bleaching power because of the high concentration of the whitening product. In-office whitening is the best option if you want a long-lasting whitening effect in a short period of time.

How To Have Whiter Teeth Longer

After getting your teeth whitened, you want to enjoy your whiter smile for a long time. To do so, you need to maintain proper oral hygiene, stay away from staining agents, and visit the dentist frequently.

Avoid Staining Foods

Certain foods and medications are known to discolour teeth. For example, drinking coffee and red wine is unknown to stain teeth and results in yellow tooth colour. You should avoid red wine, sugary foods, and other staining agents to keep your teeth in the best condition possible.

Live A Healthier Life

Are you a smoker? Lifestyle habits like tobacco use can cause teeth stains. Our dentist recommends that patients should reduce or eliminate tobacco use to help their teeth have a whiter appearance. Keep Your Teeth Clean

Frequent dental cleanings can help keep your teeth white.

During a cleaning, dental hygienists will clean your teeth, removing plaque and tartar which can cause discoloration. They then polish your teeth using polishing agents like glycerin and sodium carbonate to give them a brighter appearance.

Although there are no whitening agents used during professional teeth cleaning, it will help make your smile look clean and bright.
