Dentures in Hamilton

What are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are a permanent tooth replacement option that consists of a full arch of teeth supported by dental implants. These dentures are securely anchored to the jawbone (if you have a healthy jaw structure), providing a stable and natural-looking solution for individuals with missing teeth. Implant-supported dentures offer a number of benefits, including improved chewing ability, speech, and overall comfort. If you are considering dentures as a tooth replacement option, implant-supported dentures may be a great choice for you, but our on-site denturist will help you determine if you are a good candidate for this type of treatment. If your jawbone has diminished because of missing teeth, a jawbone graft will need to be done first.
There are a few different types of dentures available to help our patients get back to feeling like themselves again. Not only do they replace missing teeth, but they also help restore jaw strength and the appearance of your smile. The best type of denture for you will depend on each patient’s specific case. We’ll determine this during a consultation.

Our clinic in Hamilton serves all your denture needs

A full set of dentures will take up your whole mouth after your teeth have been removed. They are easily removable and easy to clean. They will be crafted in a denture lab after we’ve taken molds of your mouth for a personalized fit. They can also be made from various materials, all of which are long-lasting and natural-looking, such as acrylic resin or porcelain. There are two different parts that make up a full set of dentures – the denture base, which holds the artificial teeth and looks and feels like your gum tissue, and the artificial teeth, which look, feel and function just like natural teeth. It’s typically recommended that patients remove their complete dentures each night while they sleep and let them sit in a denture cleaning solution.

What are Partial Dentures?

There are different kinds of partial dentures which, unlike full dentures, only fill in small or large gaps in your mouth following a tooth extraction or facial trauma. Partial dentures also feature an acrylic denture base that will look and feel like your natural gums with fixed clasps that connect to surrounding remaining teeth. They don’t typically need to be removed every night, but they do need to be cleaned thoroughly to ensure they last longer, and so surrounding teeth can be cleaned as well. Denture fabrication will take place in a lab, but we offer denture repairs and adjustments in our Hamilton dental office.

Long-Term Dental Treatments Can Help Improve Your Oral Health

Complete and partial dentures can offer patients many benefits. We want to help make a positive impact on your smile and this can be accomplished with these treatment options that work to restore the appearance of your smile because of gaps and to strengthen your lips, cheeks, and jaw structure. Missing teeth can cause your facial structure to change, resulting in cheeks and lips caving in. Gaps can also cause issues with biting, chewing, speech, and shifting teeth. This is why, in order to restore your smile, we’ll need to ensure your gums and jawbone are in good condition before your replacement teeth are crafted. Gum or bone graft procedures may need to be done first. Grafts can be taken from other parts of your mouth/body or come from a donor or artificial materials. Once it’s healed, we can continue with your treatment.

How to Take Care of Your Dentures

Our denturist will ensure you are fully educated on how to clean and maintain your dentures in our office. They are very easy to look after, for example, you should clean your dentures after every meal so no food debris sits in them. They should also be removed at night and placed in lukewarm water with a denture cleaning solution. Rinse them with cool water before placing them back in your mouth. Hard-bristled toothbrushes and abrasive cleaners/toothpaste should be avoided since they can scratch the dentures. Hot water should also be avoided as it can cause the denture material to bend.
