Invisalign in Hamilton: Clear Aligners for Straight Teeth
Considering Invisalign in Hamilton? This is an effective orthodontic treatment that comes in the form of virtually invisible removable aligners rather than with metal wire and brackets like traditional braces. If you want to meet your smile goals, our Hamilton Invisalign team wants to help you make that happen.
How Invisalign Aligners Works
Invisalign treatment is an alternative to traditional metal braces. Though they work the same way as traditional braces by repairing gaps, overbites and underbites and straightening crooked teeth, Invisalign trays are removable and virtually invisible.
Invisalign aligner trays are a series of custom-made medical-grade plastic aligners that maximize comfort and begin improving your smile within the first couple of months. Some patients even report changes in about two weeks’ time! They gradually shift your teeth into the desired, proper position so you can achieve that beautiful and confident smile you’ve been longing for.
Though each patient may experience different results, the Invisalign process typically works in half the time as traditional braces (approximately 12 months), but you’ll still need to visit us regularly for adjustment appointments just as you would with metal brackets and wires.
Does Invisalign Treatment Hurt?
Just like with any dental procedure, some discomfort while wearing your first set of Invisalign aligners is natural until you become accustomed to it. Your Invisalign aligners need to be worn for 20-22 hours of the day, so you’ll get used to wearing them fairly quickly and discomfort will subside within a few weeks. Eventually, you won’t even notice that you’re wearing them!
Each time you require an adjustment, your teeth will likely feel some discomfort for the next couple of days, but that only means they’re working! Adjustments are necessary so you remain comfortable as your teeth begin shifting into their desired position.
Remember To Remove Your Clear Aligners To Eat & Drink
While receiving any orthodontic treatment, it’s important to remember your teeth need to be cleaned regularly which means brushing twice a day along with flossing and rinsing with mouth wash once a day. The same routine needs to be followed with Invisalign treatment. But you especially need to remember to remove the aligners to eat and drink anything but water. They should also be removed to brush your teeth and floss but should still be worn for 20-22 hours of the day for optimal results.
Your custom-made Invisalign aligners will discolour, scratch, or crack if they are exposed to certain foods, sugars, nicotine, and caffeine. Leave them in cleaner or their dedicated cases while you eat. Before putting them back in your mouth, make sure to clean your teeth as any leftover food particles can discolour them as well.
How To Clean Your Invisalign Clear Aligners
Our Hamilton dentists suggest using a denture cleaner or brushing them gently with non-abrasive toothpaste. A hard toothbrush or abrasive toothpaste (like a teeth whitening toothpaste) can scratch them. They should also always be placed in water when they’re not in your mouth. Don’t run the aligners under hot water as this can also bend them. It should be cool or warm water. Leaving them sitting out can dry them out and bend them. Never try to repair one on your own. Let our Invisalign dentist know about any accidental damages and we’ll repair it as soon as possible so your Invisalign treatment is never compromised.
In order to determine the best treatment options for you, we’ll schedule a consultation to discuss which orthodontic treatment plan is best for your specific smile. Each patient’s case varies and we want to educate you on why we think another dental treatment may be more beneficial for you. Whichever treatment is decided, both traditional braces and Invisalign aligners are great options. Today, dentistry has a lot to offer and, therefore, our dental team in Hamilton, Ontario is always searching for ways to serve your needs, no matter how versatile they may be.
